HoYoverse gave IGN an extended first look at Nodusfall — the official X account thanked IGN for coverage on September 3, 2026, pointing at IGN's hands-on preview of the Gamescom media demo. The preview adds several details we hadn't confirmed before.

What the first look adds

A new boss: the Moldrake Knight (モールドレイクの騎士, per IGN JP). A Norse-mythology-inspired knight who fights mounted on a black dragon, raining fire and magic from the sky. The fight has multiple phases: sometimes the knight attacks from the dragon, sometimes it dismounts to fight on the ground with a giant greatsword — including debuff magic — while the dragon harries the party from off-screen. Note: 4Gamer's preview names the dragon itself マルドレイク (Maldrake) — likely the same encounter rendered differently before official naming; see our Maldrake dragon decode.

A concrete Divine Skill example: "Glimmerwolf Incarnation." Per IGN's hands-on, this skill transforms the character into a giant wolf for massive bite damage, on a long cooldown — a concrete example of the Godhood/Divine Skill system in action.

Build loadouts & gear swapping. Before the tutorial stage, players picked a build (attack or defense leaning) and customized appearance. In play, IGN confirmed amulets and skills could be swapped mid-hub to tune a build — matching the weapon × skill × Divine Skill layering we've tracked.

Slow-life plans (early). Beyond combat, HoYoverse told IGN the team plans social/slow-life content: fishing and cooking with friends between missions in the open field. Specifics weren't disclosed — treat as a plan, not a promise.

Design goals, in the devs' words. After the demo, developers told IGN the aim is "low barrier to entry, high skill ceiling," with deep customization for veterans.

Demo structure (matches what we reported)

The IGN session ran the same three-stage demo: a single-player tutorial (learn basic attacks, combos, and RB+face-button specials with cooldowns), a hub lobby with a quest desk (Monster-Hunter-like quest board), then team fights — the four-player Qiongqi hunt and the Moldrake Knight as the finale. IGN notes the game has no tracking or trap mechanics — combat inputs stay focused on attack and defense, making it a simplified group-hunt take rather than a Monster Hunter clone.

Difficulty read (impression, not spec)

IGN found the demo less punishing than traditional soulslikes — tuned for a lighter floor with a high ceiling, and built around the satisfaction of downing huge bosses as a team. That matches the "low barrier, high ceiling" goal the developers stated.

Bottom line

The first look is early-build material: no release date was mentioned, PC remains the only confirmed platform, and several details (slow-life specifics, the full boss roster) are still unannounced. What it does confirm is the shape of endgame content: phased mythic bosses, transformative Divine Skills, and a live-service layer of social activities beyond the hunts.
