Qiongqi in Nodusfall: The Winged Tiger Boss Explained

Qiongqi(穷奇) was the first boss media fought in Nodusfall's press demo — a corrupted winged tiger from Shan Hai Jing mythology.
The myth
In the Classic of Mountains and Seas, Qiongqi is one of the four fiends — a winged tiger-like creature known for eating people and favoring the wicked. It's often paired with Taotie, Taowu and Hundun as ancient symbols of chaos. In some accounts it's an ox-tiger hybrid with hedgehog-like quills; in others, a winged tiger.
The in-game encounter (from the press demo)
- The fight: Players battle Qiongqi as the demo's opening contract. Mid-fight, the beast flees — and you mount up and give chase.
- The twist: The pursuit ends when Qiongqi is devoured by Maldrake, a colossal dragon — which then becomes the demo's second boss. It's a scripted monster-ecology moment: predators eating predators.
- Mechanics: Like other demo monsters, Qiongqi has breakable body parts and stagger states — no MMO red-circle telegraphs.
What it tells us about Nodusfall's world
The Qiongqi→Maldrake chain is the clearest example yet of HoYoverse's "mythology with ecology" direction: the Nodus corrupts legendary beasts, but the beasts also interact with each other. Expect more multi-act hunts where one contract leads into another.
