Characters & Classes
Three archetypes, three roles — the parties you'll build your hunts around.
Warrior
Tank / DPS · Demo character
Melee with blocking and parry mechanics. Norse-flavored name; closest feel to classic Monster Hunter weapons.
Archer (Rapid)
DPS · Demo character
Fast-firing ranged bow focused on sustained damage output.
Archer (Charged)
DPS · Demo character
Charge-based bow build trading speed for heavy single hits.
Mage
Support / DPS · Demo character
Magic damage plus healing — the anchor of most team compositions.

These are how previewers wrote the demo roster down — not official class names. HoYoverse has not published character names yet; treat them as leads, not facts. See the full hands-on roundup for what each one actually plays like.
Which class should I play?
No official tier list exists — the demo implies a balanced party rather than a best class. Pick by your role taste:
🎯 Want a personalised answer?Take the 5-question class picker — it recommends a demo loadout from how you actually play, and shows its scoring.
- First-time / solo: Warrior — block & parry is the most forgiving toolkit, and solo covers most core content per the official FAQ.
- Sustained DPS in a group: Rapid Archer — keep uptime while teammates hold aggro.
- Big numbers: Charged Archer — slow, heavy single shots for burst windows.
- Team anchor: Mage — damage plus healing; the most requested role in any co-op party.
Expect to re-pick at launch — the demo hinted at role switching (“switch roles at will”), and loadout swapping mid-hub was confirmed.
Confirmed vs. still unknown
Confirmed: the three archetypes above, controller-based combat (X attack, Y special, B dodge), and the loadout formula weapon × skill × Godhood Skill from the Gamescom demo and official interviews.
Unknown: the full roster size, official class names, any female character designs, and how classes interact with the four pillar systems. The demo hints at role flexibility — "switch roles at will" — but the exact mechanic is not confirmed.
How builds work
Each character combines weapon × skill × Godhood Skill. Godhood Skills come in attack / defense / support categories: charge them by landing hits, match them to your role for a bonus passive, or equip cross-role to cover your team's gaps. Official interviews describe the build ceiling as "endlessly" extensible.
This page becomes a full character database when HoYoverse announces the official roster — see the co-op guide, Godhood Skills explainer and four pillar systems meanwhile.
